Burlesque Artiste, Mentor and Writer
Beatrix Von Bourbon (London, UK) has been delighting audiences around Europe since 2006 with her modern approach to burlesque. Her acts float between artistic atmospheres with ease, providing magical, emotional acts as strong as the light-hearted cabaret favourites that have pushed her to the forefront of the contemporary burlesque scene.
Her personal range of props include:
- 2m tall banana milkshake glass (Act: Milkshake)
- Riggable, silent-running snow machine (Act: Winter)
- 7 foot, ostrich boa, Sally Rand tribute fans
- Professional standard, satin gymnastics ribbon (Act: Sex Spider)
Unafraid of exploring new artistic territory she draws upon contemporary costuming techniques and aesthetic approaches whilst retaining the grace, feminity and lavishness of Golden Age burlesque striptease. A prime example is her ‘Winter’ act where she fuses contemporary stage-design techniques, a soundtrack from Tori Amos and a costume hand-embellished with hundreds upon hundreds of beads, sequins and rhinestones. This act has been requested and performed in a 3 month run at Friedrichsbau Varieté theatre, Stuttgart, Germany.
With a plethora of experiences and anecdotes to call upon, Beatrix now mentors the tadpoles of the Neo-Burlesque scene via her articles for online magazine 21st Century Pin-Ups, her well-attended ‘backstage’ workshops and her one-on-one burlesque tuition. She’s a knowledgable resource to whom people frequently turn for soundbites and advice regarding the modern burlesque revival.
