Name: Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer
Location: Hove via Surrey
Website: www.myspace.com/mrbthegentlemanrhymer

When did you start performing cabaret/burlesque?
“Quite by accident in late 2007. Having penned a few ditties purely for my own enjoyment, a friend asked me to play a full show at a do he was putting on. Went down rather well, so I thought ‘I’ll have a go at this, seems a wheeze’.”

What defines your own brand of cabaret/burlesque performance?

“I know not of too many Hip-Hop based cabaret performers on the circuit. Beats, rhymes and manners, there’s the rub!”

What is the best performance/backstage/business tip you have learned during your time on the circuit?
“Politeness, manners and general gentlemanliness cost nothing and furthermore they oil the wheels of business quite nicely too!”

I hope to one day act in an inappropriate manner on the sofa of The One Show.

What words of encouragement or advice do you have for performers who are new to the UK burlesque/cabaret circuit?
“You know deep down if your act is original, even if you may not know if it’s actually any good. Work at it and if you are enjoying yourself, chances are your public will enjoy you.”

Which UK burlesque/cabaret performers could you watch over and over again?
“Beatrix Von Bourbon! There are so many – Des O’Connor is a master of his craft, Pippa the Ripper is wonderful, The Kitch Kats are tremendous fun, Vicky Butterfly is splendidly refined, Twin and Tonic are lovely…the list goes on…”

What are your short-term plans for your career?
“I shall attempt to start work before tea. Even better than that I shall attempt to find someone to do that for me.”

What are your long-term plans for your career?
“Political office leading to the gentrification of planet earth. Even better than that, I hope to one day act in an inappropriate manner on the sofa of The One Show.”
